Case-study

Een Case Study is een samenwerking tussen een bedrijf en een universiteit. Een student of een aantal studenten zullen een opdracht voor het bedrijf of de organisatie uitvoeren. Met de vergoeding die hier tegenover staat, kan een deel van de studiereis gefinancierd worden. Dankzij deze vorm van samenwerking kunnen de studenten op een interessante manier met het bedrijfsleven kennismaken en de praktische kant van de studie ervaren. Tijdens de Case Study worden de studenten begeleid door docenten van de Technische Universiteit Eindhoven. Bedrijven en organisaties die hieraan meewerken, kunnen hier hun voordeel mee doen; zij kunnen op een voordelige manier gebruik maken van de kennis en kunde van de aankomende ingenieurs. Een tweede voordeel is het feit dat het bedrijf of de organisatie naamsbekendheid zal krijgen onder de IE&IS-studenten.

Overzicht case studies

In the ambitious Campus 2020 plan, the board of the eUT has determined what their sustainability targets will be concerning energy consumption and self-sustainability. It is now up to our students to figure out how to get there.

The energy-market is constantly evolving because of the increasing scarcity of fossil fuels. Endinet, as an energy distributor, is interested in what energy sources are most viable in the near future. The purpose of this case therefore is to determine the socio-economic potential of all of the possible new sources of energy in the Eindhoven district.

Hyteps has introduced a system with which one can measure and monitor the energy consumption in an industrial process. Said data is shown in an online web application that in time can be used on the work floor. The purpose of this project is to determine the usability of the web application and make recommendations in the form of a manual or suggest changes for both the interface and the functionality. All and all an exciting challenge!

It has been shown that light can influence people’s moods and behaviour. This also holds for dynamic light; light that changes in colour and intensity over time. In this case study, our students set out to determine what the effect of dynamic light conditions are on the shopping behaviour of people in a clothing store.

During the past few years, the department of Technical Innovation Sciences has experiences a continuing decrease in the intake of new students. This could become a serious problem in the future when intake numbers drop below a critical level. Creative and innovative thinking by four of our bright minds could possibly turn the tide.

Copper vs. fibreglass

This project is evaluating the scenario in which we would replace all of our copper connections in data transport by fiberglass wires. What would be the implications of such a switch for the place where people work, their energy consumption and the load on the data network? Let’s find out!
